J. Carol Myer Raines, 65, of Raven's Nest Branch, Cedar Bluff, Virginia peacefully passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016. Carol was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother with an ethereal ability of unconditional love. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Clarence Willard and Allene Lorena Beavers Myer and brother, Bill Myer of Raven's Nest Branch. Carol is survived by husband, Robert H. (Bob) Raines of the home; daughter, Robyn Allene Raines and partner, Marc Maiorana, of Abingdon (VA); and daughter, Ashley Elaine Johnson and husband, David, grandson, Isaac Steele, and granddaughter, Elizabeth Gray, of Scranton (PA). Siblings: Jack Myer (FL); Evelyn Looney (NC); Freda Sue Myer and Betty Wingo (VA).
Carol graduated from Richlands High School in 1969 and obtained her Associate's Degree in Accounting from Southwest Virginia Community College in 1971. She was a long-time member of Belfast United Methodist Church and served as a Sunday School teacher and Treasurer.
Carol will be remembered for her bright smile, tireless work ethic, and love of conversation. She loved working with people and cherished her memories from Tazewell Acme, Pat's Pontiac, the many years in her self-employed tax office, and Appalachian Agency for Senior Citizens. Carol had a gift for working with children and held a special place in her heart for the kids she worked with at AASC Generations Daycare.
Carol and her family proudly held deep confidence and thanks to Dr. Jerome Goldschmidt and staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Care, Dr. Thomas Bishop, Dr. Jolene Henshaw, and Dr. W. Eric Shrader.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 2, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff, Virginia with a memorial service immediately following at 7:00 P.M. There will be a private burial at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, Carol's wishes are for donations to be made to Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center (25236 Hillman Hwy., Abingdon, VA 24210) and Belfast United Methodist Church (291 Belfast Mills Rd., Cedar Bluff, VA 24609).
