Herley Edward Blankenship, age 78 of Cedar Bluff, Virginia passed away Saturday, August 20, 2016. Born October 5, 1937 in Tazewell County, he was a son of the late Willie Earl Blankenship and Edith Irene Settle Blankenship. He was a member of the Cedar Bluff United Methodist Church. Herley was an avid supporter of the Richlands High School Sports Program where he made shadow boxes for the seniors. He was a member of the Tazewell County Sportsman’s Club. Herley thoroughly enjoyed coaching little league baseball and was founder of the Local Bee Keepers Club in Richlands.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Ann Blankenship Keene; one sister, Dottie Bennington; one brother-in-law, Kenny Lane McGlothlin.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou McGlothlin Blankenship; two daughters, Sherri Blankenship, Honaker, Virginia and Nita Dawn Hess and husband, Bill, Richlands, Virginia; one son, Thomas Earl Blankenship and wife, Michele, Richlands, Virginia; grandchildren, Joshua Lee Keene and wife, Amy, Austin Tyrel Hess and wife, Patsy, Jeremy Andrew Keene and wife, Jessica, Erik Lee Hess and wife, Jessica, and Grace Noel Blankenship; great-grandchildren, Emilee Keen and Brylee Hess; son-in-law, Randy Keene and wife Renae; brother-in-law T.J. McGlothlin and wife Judy; sister-in-law, Tina McGlothlin; several nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral service will be conducted 7 PM Tuesday, August 23, 2016 in the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel, Cedar Bluff, Virginia with Pastor Annette Warren officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 PM prior to the service.
