Brother Squire Hurley Horne age 99 of the Paint Lick Section of Cedar Bluff, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016 at the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, VA after a short illness. Born January 10, 1917 in Buchanan County he was the son of the late Jacob (Jake) and Lutisha (Tish) Horn. Squire moved to Tazewell County, VA in 1967 and lived there the remainder of his life. He worked as a coal miner most of his life. He loved to hunt and fish and spread God’s Gospel. He was a minister for over 70 years in the Pentecostal Holiness Faith. He was a member of the Greens Chapel Church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Lucinda Clifton Horne; one infant daughter, Cinda; one son, Lee Morris Horne; three sisters, Patty Stiltner, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Shelton, Flora Bell Stiltner; three brothers, Ernest Horne, Henry Edward (Ed) Horne, and Ira John Horne.
He is survived by four sons, Kenneth D. Horne and wife June of Elkton, MD, Jimmy R. Horne and wife Betty of Wytheville, VA, Ray H. Horne of Bland, VA, Ralph Toya Horne of Pounding Mill, VA; four daughters, Leatha June Davidson and husband Junior of Saltville, VA, Alma J. Endicott of Pounding Mill, VA, Marie C. Smith and husband Dwight of Pounding Mill, VA, Rita J. Compton and husband Douglas of Piney Flats, TN; one daughter-in-law, Phyllis Sparks Horne of Newark, DE; 26 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; four brothers, Ervin Horne of Raven, VA, Harvey Horne and wife Olivine of Cedar Bluff, VA, Andrew Horne of Abingdon, VA, Hayes Horne and wife Mandy of Ohio; one sister, Virgie Matney of Doran, VA.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday July 21, 2016, at the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff, Virginia with the Brother Lawrence Hayes, Brother Charlie McGlothlin and Brother Clarence Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands, VA. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons and granddaughters.
