Dorothy Marie Cole Ray, age 78 went peacefully to be with her Lord Jesus Christ early on June 7, 2016 after an extended illness. She was born in Bearwallow, Virginia to the late John Henry and Lou Emma Cole. She was a tough, independent woman who spent 36 years faithfully serving customers throughout her career at JL Hudson's and Leggett/Belk. She spent countless hours being actively involved with Bethel Assembly of God Church, Good Samaritan Food Pantry, and the Clinch Valley Medical Center Cancer Committee. She also attended Heritage Church in Dublin, VA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband John "Bud" Ray, one sister, Mary Moore, and seven brothers, Curtis Cole, Claude Cole, Dewey Cole, Harvey Cole, Alden Cole, Foyster Cole, and Grady Cole.
She is survived by one daughter, Denise Cochran and husband Donald of Christiansburg, VA; one granddaughter, Brittany Cochran of Christiansburg, VA; one grandson, Justin Cochran of Lexington, KY; one brother, Roy Cole and wife Ella of Bandy, VA; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Funeral services for Dorothy Marie Cole Ray will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff, Virginia with Pastor Michelle King and Pastor Travis Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends after 1:30 P.M. Thursday at the Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff, VA
