Mr. Lewis Allen Bales, age72, of Richlands, Virginia passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2016 following a short illness. He was the son of the late Harley and Lilly Lowe Bales. Lewis was born on August 1, 1943 in Honaker, VA and was a graduate of Richlands High School class of 1961. He was a well-respected figure of the community. He loved sports and coached baseball, softball and basketball, for more than 30 years. He was a freelance sport writer for the Richlands News Press. Lewis gave back to the community by volunteering at the Good Samaritan Food Pantry and was a member of the Richlands First Assembly of God Church.
Lewis is survived by his wife Peggy Bales of 51 years; 3 sons Michael and wife Sandy of Bluefield, Virginia, Brian and wife Alicia of North Tazewell, Virginia and Brad and wife Veronica of Richlands, Virginia; sister Lora Gay Justice and husband J.B. of Wardell, Virginia; 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and special caregiver and friend Mary Sparks.
A celebration of Lewis Bales life service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Friday February 26, 2016 at the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff, VA with Pastor Buddy Herald officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery at Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be sons and Grandsons. The family will receive friends after 12:00 noon on Friday before the service at 1:00. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Good Samaritan Food Pantry: 106 Veterans Drive, Richlands, VA 24641.
