John Wayne (Johnny) Hampton, Sr., age 60 of Baptist Valley, Virginia, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, left for his heavenly reward the morning of February 6, 2016 at Johnson City Medical Center. He began his journey on earth on April 25, 1955 and was a son of the late Levi and Hattie Hampton. He was a retired coal miner of 37 years after working for Island Creek Coal Company and Consol Energy Buchannan #1. After his time of employment ended, he enjoyed farming and spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Rev. Harlan and Julia Snell Hampton, Robert Allen and Mallie Burke Hinkle.
Left to cherish his precious memory are his loving wife of 40 years Barbara Hampton; two sons, John Wayne Hampton, Jr., Baptist Valley, Virginia, James Hampton and very special daughter-in-law, Shenia, Baptist Valley, Virginia; sisters, Bobbie Smith and Fiancée Coy Anderson, Afton, Virginia, Carolyn Monk, Tazewell, Virginia, Donna Lawson and husband David, North Tazewell, Virginia, Lois Hampton, Bristol, Tennessee; four beautiful granddaughters, Taylor, Haley, Morghan and Abigail Hampton; several nieces and nephews; special niece, Kristin Smith; many family and friends who will carry him within their hearts every day.
A funeral service will be conducted 1 P.M. Wednesday, February 10, 2016 in the Singleton Funeral Service chapel, Cedar Bluff, Virginia, with Rev. Chuck Patterson, Rev. Delmer Somoskey and Rev. Deidra Rowe officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Virginia. Serving as pallbearers will be Kelly Smith, Derick Smith, Todd Smith, Daniel Smith, Rick Keene, Mason Colley, Chan Smith and Chad Lowe. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Nicholas Smith, Ronald Clifton, Shawn Beavers and Larry Robinson.
The family would like to convey a special thanks to the nursing staff at Preferred Home Health, Michelle Remines and Terry Stiltner.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 P.M. Tuesday at Singleton Funeral Service, Cedar Bluff, Virginia.
